Fish oils are popular for their Omega 3 content. They are an easy source of fatty acids but also contain other substances besides Omega 3.
Pollution in fish oils
The world's fish stocks are becoming increasingly affected by environmental pollutants - so much so that pregnant women are sometimes even discouraged from consuming a great deal of fish.
The ocean environment contains a growing amount of heavy metals which build up in the food chain and have very negative consequenses for the health of animals higher up in the food chain, including humans.13
Fish oils contain a lot of EPA
Fish oils contain mainly two types of Omega 3 - DHA and EPA. EPA has been considered very important for cardiac health, but it is not a good building block for the central nervous system which needs a steady supply of DHA.10
Since brain cells will incorporate EPA instead of DHA, if there is not enough of the latter, ask your physician whether limiting your child's consumption of EPA could be wise.
This is why AlvoGenius contains mainly DHA, and less than 1% of EPA.
